2013 Steve Harvey Neighborhood Awards Best Teacher
Dr. Mike Robinson opened the 5th season of Parent Talk Live on Sunday, August 19 at 8:00 PM. His guest Mr. Albert T. Lewis winner of the 2013 Steve Harvey Neighborhood Awards for Best Teacher.
Albert T. Lewis is an eighth grade language arts teacher at Walker Mill Middle School located in Prince George’s County, Maryland. He was also named the 2013 Prince George’s County Teacher of the Year.
Albert T. Lewis is a product of the Prince George's County Public School System, touring through most notably Walker Mill Middle (c/o 1997) and Central High Schools (c/o 2001). He matriculated at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Studies with a Concentration in Journalism in 2006.
Mr. Lewis began his service in the Prince George’s County school system, serving as a substitute teacher at Drew Freeman Middle School from 2005-2007 in Suitland, MD. He is now "home," and it is at home where he is serving in his sixth year as a as Language Arts teacher and third year as team leader.
Mr. Lewis is the product of a single parent and has two younger brothers. He attributes his success to his faith in God and the values that his mother and other family members instilled in him while he was young.
His hope is that the work that is done in the classroom will make students more aware of the privilege it is to receive an education and the tremendous responsibility that comes along with it. He is a firm believer in the proverb "Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day. But, teach a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime."
